At its core, Towny introduces towns and nations, where a nation is a group of towns.

Land Claiming

Each “claim” within Towny is represented as one full chunk. A chunk can be claimed by a town as long as the following conditions are met:

  • You are in an unclaimed (wilderness) chunk
  • The chunk is next to a claimed chunk
  • The chunk is in the main world, main nether, or main end
  • You can afford to purchase the chunk

Land claim costs start at $100, increasing by 30% every time. Land claims are capped at $5,000 so you will never pay more than that for a claim.

Outposts

Town outposts can be used to claim land outside of the main town area. Outposts can be made as long as the following conditions are met:

  • You have enough outposts remaining
  • The chunk is not within 5 chunks of another towns land
  • The chunk is in the main world, main nether, or main end

Every town only gets a few outposts - so make sure to save them until they’re needed! Outposts are great for nether or end bases for towns, especially as they can be teleported to easily.

Town and Nation Upkeep

Every town and nation in The Far Lands has to pay upkeep every twelve real life hours. This is taken directly out of the town or nation bank accounts.

Town upkeep is calculated as follows:

town_upkeep = 20 + (2 * number_of_claims) + (5 * number_of_residents)

As an example, if a town has 50 claims and 10 residents, their town upkeep would be $170 per twelve hours.

Nation upkeep is calculated as follows:

nation_upkeep = 10 + (15 * number_of_towns) + (2 * number_of_residents)

As an example, if a nation has 5 towns, with 20 residents total, their nation upkeep would be $125 per twelve hours.

Taxes

Towns and nations can both implement their own taxes, paid by the non-promoted residents (for towns), or by the towns (for nations).
